How to apply

Eligibility: TheĀ  MSC scheme rules do normally not allow you to apply for a PhD hosted in a country in which you obtained your first degree* (see full rule below). In addition, of course, you will need to satisfy the entry requirements of the host institution.

Procedure: Ultimately you will need to apply directly to the organisation that is hosting the PhD project you wish to apply for. Initially, however, to register interest, the process is as follows:

  • Read the information about each ESR project. These projects are listed on this page. Note that some positions have already been filled.
  • Identify a project that you are interested in among the projects still available listed as Early-Stage Researcher 1-13 (ESR1-ESR13). Note the host institution and check that you satisfy the eligibility criteria above.
  • Complete the application form [PDF]
  • Send your resume and a brief statement of research interest (250 words max) to the host contact with copy to marie-alix.dalang-secretan@epfl.ch and villiam.bortolotti@unibo.it
  • The deadline is 15st October 2018 for projects starting between October-November 2018
*The full mobility rule reads: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention (1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol) are not taken into account. For international European interest organisations or international organisations, recruited researchers must not have spent more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date at the same appointing organisation.
